Earn commissions! myPOPupshop

Interestingly, brands continually to exploit Facebook as a marketing tool and a place to engage customers. Vacant a US company who deals with a lot of large and small brand pop-up store has enabled Facebook users to create Flash Sales and Earn Money through the use of "mypopupshop"! MicroMarketing a Swedish company who has designed an App for Facebook, allowing online users to open "Pop-Up Shops" for their selected brands.

All users need to do is download the App, Choose and Brand, and Promote it to their friends. Commissions will be paid to each sales made by the users. After 30 days representing the store, users can choose to continue to sell the selected brands or choose other brands. This is interesting in terms of what we discussed in class yesterday about Forrester Classifications: Owned, Paid, and Earned. Would this be a Paid? or Earned?

I really think this is a very clever strategy to expose a brand through the use of social media and actually earn some revenue from it. As many marketing classes has mentioned WOM is a very powerful in terms of influencing ones network. In this case, users benefits from paid commission by the selected brand, and brands benefits from getting to sell more products and exposure of products through these users. What do you think?

Unlike eBay, you have to choose your own products and sell, you can represent a brand selling its product to your friends and social network, through the use of an APP in Facebook! How good is that!

I would use this to make some extra income! :) Unfortunately, this App hasn't been launched yet! :(

Lets earn some Money $$$

  1. This app sounds great. But at what point does it just become annoying, and perhaps cause more users to switch perhaps to G+? Especially if a lot of your friends choose to download the app, and you start to get bombarded with ads?

  2. It's a good idea, but to me seems a little old schoolish, its taking a sales person who gets commission and putting them online. So companies need to be careful that these "sales people" don't try to oversell etc. Think of the telemarketer days, we all hated them. It should be practiced with care this one.

  3. I liken this more to multi-level-marketing business (such as Amway) - people making money by selling stuff to their friends and family. I don't know if it's a good idea to cash in on your friendships?

  4. Yes I agree with everyone, @Wags @rossouwe @IvanD, it really seems like direct marketing but Online! Like Amway, lots of people approaches their friends and ended up hating each other :D And yes I do think it will become annoying at a certain point where everyone wants to make money, trying to expose everything through Facebook. However, if it is managed well and have some restrictions and some terms that everyone agrees on, it can be a powerful tool for both consumers and companies in sharing their products to the world. How is this so different to FB Marketplace? We are still bombarded by ads that our friends post. And still selling stuff to our friends online like FB Market place. Do you agree?

  5. As long as it's done with respect for the friendship, rather than a focus on the $$$. Nobody wants to see their friendships blatantly monetized, do they?
