more Facebook functions!

Yesterday in class, we were discussing some Facebook functions and Marketing functions on Facebook. As we seen in class, there are many things that organizations and SME can use to expose themselves on Facebook. However, there are more functions in Facebook that businesses can use and can be beneficial to ones business.

As a page, you are allowed to add Apps or Customize your own Apps, as mentioned in class. There is an App call "Review", which allows fans to rate and comment on your business. This is extremely suitable for restaurants and service industry allowing customer to "Give Stars" and give a "Review" about the brand or the company.

This App was developed by Facebook but doesn't seem to be popular among businesses. I looked at several restaurants Fan Page e.g. Hardware Societe and Thai Culinary (Some of the restaurants I go to! Great Food!) The Review function is not there. Which I think would be beneficial for businesses such as restaurants to drive more traffic through opinions, comments, and ratings.

Have you spotted any Facebook Fan Pages using this "Reviews" function? If so, do you think that it can be as powerful as food blogs or other food rating sites such as "Urbanspoon"? I personally think that it would be quiet useful for businesses such as restaurants to integrate everything in one platform.

Tell me what you Think :)

Snapshots of what "Review" looks like!

  1. I think this "Review" function is a good platform for friends to share good restaurants. However, as this is a new function, many people are not aware of it. I just know it through this blog!

  2. It's a great function, but I would imagine companies that don't use it, are the companies that don't quite know yet what to do with bad reviews. This is a shame because to me it shows that companies just jump on the SM band wagon without clear strategies.

  3. i think it is a good function, because it could directly give others a opinion of the restaurants from customer perspective. but i don't understand that, will it show the comments with the degree as well? the bad review could not be avoided, but if they just give the star degree, how the restaurants know what the things should be improved?
in addition, i dont think it could be powerful as urbanspoon. because urbanspoon has a systemic comparison of the restaurants, to make customers easily to get the information.

  4. Well done, Chun... another Facebook function that should be on our list of marketing tools. I agree, reviews are very valuable for customers when assessing potential businesses to buy from, in particular in the hospitality industry. Even the odd negative review helps, as I don't always expect perfection, and a "warts and all" set of reviews actually adds credibility, I believe. So businesses shouldn't be scared of implementing this tool on their FB pages (unless they are really bad!).
